Weddings, Parties, Anything….

You know you’re getting older when your children start getting married…which is exactly what’s been happening to me over the past week.
Michelle and I and a hundred other family and friends have just returned from my eldest son Michael’s wedding to his long-term girlfriend Gemma, in the grounds of the beautiful Amberley Estate winery, among the rolling hills of the famous Margaret River region of Western Australia’s far south-west. Mike met Gemma, an English girl, when she was backpacking around eastern Australia during her ‘gap year’ 7 years ago….and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
As the father of the groom, I was of course puffed up with pride…not that I could take much credit for the way my son has turned out. He’s always been a leader. You can tell the quality of a man by the quality of the friends he keeps, and Michael’s friends are the close, Rolls-Royce kind of friends you want your children to have.
It was a stunning wedding, at the end of truly magnificent weekend. Several of us rented a beachside palace in Old Dunsborough, and while the bride and groom fussed over last-minute details, the rest of us enjoyed the ambiance of perfect weather and some good local wine.
I’ve just put the newly-wedded couple on a plane for the Philippines, where they’ll spend their honeymoon before returning to work in Wellington, New Zealand. Our house has been bursting at the seams with family, friends and new in-laws, so it’s with some relief that I can turn my attention back to what I’m supposed to be doing… helping our subscribers across the world make more money!
