A Secret to Salon Success

WSM co-founders Jill Groves & Greg Milner at the Business Review Weekly 'Fast 100' awards in Melbourne. With recession-defying annual growth of 48%pa over the past three years, WSM ranked 74th fastest growing company under 200 staff.
Want to know the secret? Secret to success ‘thinking’, the secret to ever-increasing income and growth?
Hang around with successful people!
Somebody once said, wisely, that your income will tend to be average of the incomes of the people you spend most time with.
Which means (obviously) that if you hang out with people who are poor in spirit, money and attitude, that’s where you’ll end up too.
The world is littered with case study after case study to prove the rule.
Which is why I prefer hanging around with successful people. A rising tide really does lift all boats. Michelle and I are in Melbourne, where we were among 200 guests at the annual Business Review Weekly magazine’s ‘Fast 100′ awards last night.
We ranked 74th fastest growing small to medium company (under 200 employees) – our first appearance on the list, after three years of average annual growth of 48%. (Our own success is of course, merely a reflection of the success of our many hundreds of member salons all over the world)
But the best part of the whole evening for me was being in the company of such high achievers in such a diverse range of industry sectors. The LOWEST ranking business on this list, an IT company with 12 staff, achieved average annual growth of 37% over the past three years. Number one on the list, a retailer specializing in home delivery of farm-fresh produce, managed a staggering 392% growth. That’s smokin’.
These are small businesses who are creating their own economy, not blaming ‘the downturn’ for their own failures.
It’s the same with many (most!) of our Inner Circle member salons. Rather than whining about how ‘tough’ things are, these salon and spa owners – like the ones we just hosted at the Gold Coast Road to Riches seminar (see videos) - are gritting their teeth and burrowing in, achieving spectacular growth, doing a million things at once, living a BIG life, not a small, scared, apprehensive one.
Typical is Cheryl Hopkins, an Inner Circle member for more than two years, still excited, still advancing, still seeking out and networking with other successful salons, evidence her email to me this morning:
“I am interested in being part of the Academy group. I so learnt a lot at the Gold Coast seminar on Monday. I am hungry for more, have had very little sleep since coming home. Thank you to the team of WSM.”
The Academy is for advanced Inner Circle members, will present a vast range of wealth creation strategies from some of the best business brains in the country, begins with the first of four all-day intense workshops in Sydney in March.
