Salon Marketing for Dummies: Audio Interview
by Greg Milner on 10/09/09 at 1:12 pm

Me with nephew Tom in Melbourne, on our way to the Collingwood/St Kilda finals game at the MCG. Two days later I'm being interviewed from London...
It’s been an interesting week. A quick trip to Melbourne with Michelle’s family (including 18 month old nephew Tom) so the girls could shop in some of that city’s excellent boutiques, but fortunately Tom’s dad Michael and I were able to excuse ourselves and attend a football final at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground.
What a fabulous arena that is, specially when it’s bursting at the seams with nearly 90,000 bellowing fans.
But it was back to earth on return to the office, and an international interview commitment.
Part of the job of running a business which helps more salon owners make more money than any other organisation anywhere is accommodating requests for interviews.
I get many of these every month, most are of a general business nature but occasionally are more specific to the salon industry.
One such interview occurred just this week, with UK salon consultant Rebecca Kepple. I’ve posted the recording of this salon marketing interview below because in it I cover some of the most basic ‘sales thinking’ processes we take our Inner Circle members through (over and over again, in many cases).
If you’re a salon owner or a spa owner and you’re having trouble ‘getting your head’ around the sheer size of the task of marketing your salon or spa, this recording should help reduce some of that confusion to simple, manageable concepts.
Some of the issues covered in this interview include (but are not limited to)
- The critical importance of creating a USP (Unique Selling Proposition)
- Avoiding being what we call an ‘advertising victim’
- What’s the best media to use – email or hard copy?
- How to instantly increase retail sales
- The dumb mistakes most salon owners (indeed, most business owners) make when it comes to beauty salon marketing or hair salon marketing
You can either listen to this interview right here at the computer, or download it to an iPod, for example.

Great interview, I think rebecca was left quite speechless with a lot to think about. I always pick up something new from these even if you herd it before it just reminds you about it again.
