Chanelle van der Heijden is the copywriter here at WSM. A cultural mix (half Dutch, half South African), she’s obsessed with colourful shoes, caffeine-free tea and all things creative. When not frantically writing away, Chanelle can usually be found lurking the halls of her university (where she’s finishing up her post-grad in Marketing), or behind her beloved piano. |

Marnie Kallmeyer is a self confessed beauty “nerd” that loves scouring the net for any information that can help her salon, and other salons, improve their performance so that the owner gets the rewards that they deserve for going into business for themselves. Marnie has learnt the hard way that owning a salon can be challenging, and with her steely resolve, has found a way to make her salon the experts in the field of eye lash extensions for Australia. Our Salon Owner Ambassadors
From 2011, long-term successful members of the Inner Circle Premium program will be appointed as Worldwide Salon Marketing Ambassadors to assist local salon owners in each State or Province (in Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada)
Australian state Ambassadors for 2011 include
Western Australia
Tegan Messineo (pictured here with partner Brad and twin boys!) is a shining example of youthful success. At just 23, Tegan has built her Body Firming & Beauty in Bunbury into a powerful business that runs like a machine without her ever having to lay hands on a client. Tegan joined the Inner Circle Premium program in December 2008, and has since doubled the turnover of her salon.
Tegan is keen to help other salons in the south-western corner of Western Australia to grow their business and achieve the same success she has enjoyed since joining the program.
South Australia:
Dina Matters of Contours Face & Body Clinic in Norwood (a suburb of Adelaide) joined the Inner Circle program in May, 2009, and has since seen massive improvements in both sales and profits. So much so that it’s given her the confidence to open another salon! “Within 3 months of opening the new salon we’re turning a profit,” says Dina.
A former model, Dina longer ago gave up serving clients, and now works purely ‘on’ the business. “Thanks to the team at WWSM for creating this programme and for seeing the beauty industry as a worthy recipient, you have changed my business completely and I am extremely grateful to you all!”
New South Wales:
Michelle Weston of Northmead Beauty Therapy in the northern suburbs of Sydney has been a member of the Inner Circle program longer than just about anybody, joining way back in March 2005.
Life has changed dramatically since then. Her salon has more than tripled in size, she’s no longer employed treating clients, she’s appointed a young manager, and now runs the business almost entirely from home!
Michelle’s million-dollar business allows her to lead the lifestyle so many salon owners struggle to achieve – and as an Ambassador of Worldwide Salon Marketing in 2011, she’s “delighted to be able to pass on her knowledge and experience to others…”
Victoria:
Robyn Curnow of Beauty on Ryrie – a Premium member since March 2009 – has turned her two salons in Melbourne into marketing machines since joining the Inner Circle program and getting her Toolkit.
Robyn is typical of so many salon owners who were finding the burden of business ownership overwhelming, until she discovered how the customer-generating tools and systems available to her as an IC member suddenly started to make the process of filling her appointment book so much easier.
Robyn is a very calm and reserved person, demonstrating that success in business doesn’t come down to any particular personality type. She’s very generous with her knowledge and has a passion for helping other salon owners achieve what she’s achieved in such a short time.
Queensland:
Brenda Patel, of Nirvana Rejuvenation Spa & Hair Salon in Brisbane, has been with Worldwide Salon Marketing since way back in April 2005. Back then, the business was running at a loss, with only three staff.
It’s since grown to eight staff, with turnover increasing by over 150%, and Brenda now runs the business almost by remote control, living on the famed Gold Coast south of the city while the spa is more than an hour away on the north side of the Brisbane city.
For salon owners in small towns, Susan Anderson is an inspiration. Her Lillian Mac Skin Clinic is in a small mining town of a few thousand people, many miles inland from Mackay in far north Queensland.
Susan joined the Inner Circle Premium program in July 2009, and has seen her salon triple in turnover since then. As Susan reveals in this short interview, she’s delighted to be offered the opportunity to mentor other salon owners as an Ambassador for WSM.
Tasmania:
Tracey Orr has been a prominent Member since 2005 and very successful salon owner in her own right. Tracey’s Absolute Beauty in the northern Tasmanian city of Launceston is a mutli-million-dollar business employing over a dozen staff. Tracey no longer works ‘on the floor’ in any capacity, instead working ‘on’ the business instead of ‘in’ the business.
